Home Repair for Accessible and Independent Living
The HRAIL program, which stands for Home Repairs for Accessible and Independent Living, provides free home repairs for eligible seniors. The HRAIL program is administered through the City of Chicago's Department of Community Development, and its purpose it to help seniors age in place through repairs which make seniors' homes safer and more livable.
Past projects have included:
- New flooring
- Shower Repair
- Railings/ grab bars
- Door/ lock installment and repair
- Drywall replacement
Repairs are absolutely free and are performed by licensed contractors who are chosen by RCC and approved by the city. Work usually takes place between Spring and early Fall, but applications are accepted year-round.
This program is aimed primarily at low-moderate income seniors, and proof of income level is required as part of the application process.
