Small Accessible Repairs for Seniors

New Windows The SARFS program (formerly HRAIL), which stands for Small Accessible Repairs for Seniors, provides free home repairs for eligible seniors. The SARFS program is administered through the City of Chicago's Department of Family and Support Services, and its purpose it to help seniors age in place through repairs which make their homes safer and more livable.

Past projects have included:

  1. New flooring
  2. Shower Repair
  3. Railings/ grab bars
  4. Door/ lock installment and repair
  5. Drywall replacement

Repairs are absolutely free and are performed by licensed contractors who are chosen by Ravenswood Community Council and approved by the city. Work usually takes place between Spring and early Fall, but applications are accepted year-round.

This program is aimed at low-to-moderate income seniors, and proof of income level is required as part of the application process.
